Scan before it arrives
Check over both shoulders while the ball travels. Know where the pressure and space are before contact, so your first touch already has a purpose.

Cushion into space
Withdraw the foot on contact to absorb the pace, then push the touch into space away from pressure. A dead touch under your feet invites the tackle.

Open your body
Receive side-on with your hips open to the field, one shoulder to the passer. You see the ball and your next option in a single picture.
